The ECCK is pleased to announce that our very first ECCK Annual Report is now available. Its purpose is to provide our members and partners with the highlight of ECCK’s activities and achievements throughout the preceding year.

On May 29, the ECCK organized Ulsan Investors’ Network Luncheon at the Grand Hyatt Seoul. Hosted by Ulsan Metropolitan Government, the event was organized with informative sessions to help the ECCK members’ better understanding of investment opportunity in Ulsan.

On May 8, the ECCK hosted an HR Seminar with the Federation of Korean Industries. During the seminar, Country Manager of RDI Worldwide Ltd Gordon Dudley, Account Director of EF Corporate Solutions Sangho Lee and Director of Visa Master Giljun Yang delivered presentations on career developments in European companies.

On May 27, the ECCK participated in the 2019 Korea Economic Forum organized by the Korea Joongang Daily. Representatives from the ECCK including Chairperson Dimitris Psillakis met and discussed with Financial Services Commission Chairman Choi Jong-ku to learn more about the current developments in the Korean economy and future outlook of the Korean financial industry.

On May 17, the ECCK attended the 2019 Foreign Investment Advisory Council (FIAC) Meeting. The meeting focused on discussing ideas for ‘Test bed Seoul’ and ‘Seoul Global Challenge’ projects to help innovative companies to grow.

On May 21, the ECCK hosted a seminar with the Federation of Korean Industries under the theme of ‘Implications of a Year Implementation of EU GDPR’. The seminar was held to evaluate a year of EU GDPR implementation and to review the impact of EU GDPR on personal information protection law system in Korea.

|

On May 15, the ECCK organized the Busan Port Authority Investment Network Luncheon. During the seminar, BPA delivered a presentation under the theme of ‘Current Status & Development Strategy of Busan Port’, and Gyeonsangnam-do Province provided information on ‘The Global Hub for International Business & Logistics’.

On May 15, ECCK hosted a CFO Forum under the theme of ‘Changes to Audit Practice in Korea’. Attended by CFOs across various industries, EY Korea’s Partner Jae-Yong Aum and Audit Senior Manager Pierre Chabaud delivered presentations.

|
On May 19, the ECCK IPR Committee conducted its IPR Awareness Campaign at the 14th Global Gathering organized by the Busan Metropolitan Government. The Global Gathering is an annual international event organized in Busan, attracting around 30,000 visitors and 200 promotional booths.

|
|
On May 22, ECCK President Christoph Heider spoke about the start-up scene and support programs in Europe at the Global Startup Festival Daejeon 2019. The 3-day conference was hosted by the Daejeon Metropolitan City in cooperation with The Korea Herald.

In the morning of May 22, the ECCK hosted the second ECCK CEO Forum of this year. It featured HMP Law Senior Foreign Attorney Dr. Michael Hay’s presentation on his experience as a lawyer who in 2004 opened the first ever foreign-invested law firm in North Korea.

|
|
|
|
On May 10, an academic conference on ‘EU Trade and Industry Policy in 2019 and Korea’s Policy Options’ was held at Pukyung National University in Busan. The conference included a special panel on ‘Issues of Trade and Industry Sectors between the EU and Korea’ in which ECCK delegates participated as speakers.

On May 16, the ECCK successfully hosted All European Network Night 2019 under the theme of ‘The Starry Night in Europe’ at The Shilla Seoul. The evening could not have happened without our valued members and friends. We truly appreciate your continuous interest and support!

Reporting of Foreign Financial Assets 2018: The National Tax Services (NTS) requires residents (individuals and corporations) to report their overseas financial assets to Korean authorities. The ECCK would like to stress the importance of this requirement as non-compliance might lead to penalties of 20% of the under-reported / non-reported amount or even to criminal cases. The threshold was lowered from KRW 1.0 billion to KRW 500.0 million. The deadline for the reporting of overseas financial accounts is June 30, 2019. If in scope but not yet reported, we recommend you doing this quickly as penalties are increasing over time. The threshold of KRW 500.0 million is valid for 2018 to be reported in 2019.
