COVID-19 Update (July 5, 2022)
EU Accepts COVID-19 Certificate of South Korea as Equivalent to the EU Digital COVID Certificate
The European Union has decided to recognize COVID-19 certificates issued by additional five countries – South Korea, Bahrain, Ecuador, Kosovo, and Madagascar, effective from July 1, 2022.
The certificates issued from these countries are now equivalent to the EU Digital COVID Certificate, which means that they are now officially connected to the EU’s system and will be accepted under the same conditions as the EU Digital COVID Certificate.
The connection to the system allows the Korean citizens, who hold valid certificates, to be able to use them under the same conditions as the holders of an EU Digital COVID Certificate do, and vice versa.
Holders of the EU digital COVID certificate are exempt from travel restrictions like testing or quarantine, which will enable travel between South Korea and the 31 member states of the EU.
Vaccines approved by the European Medicines Agency, including Moderna, AstraZeneca, Johnson & Johnson, Novavax, and Pfizer are recognized by the EU digital certificate.
