A leading driver and strong advocate for European Businesses in Korea
[Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Korea] 2022 Europe Day
On May 9, the European Union celebrates Europe Day. It is a day to commemorate the “Schuman Declaration” of May 9, 1950 that established the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC) in the aftermath of two devastating world wars. The ECSC has evolved into the European Union today and brought together peace and stability to the European continent for over 70 years.
This year, instead of a usual reception, the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Korea will be celebrating the Europe Day at Seoul Plaza with 24 embassies of the EU Member States in Korea, the Embassy of Ukraine and with the Korean public. The event with European booths will be open to public from 10:00 AM to 05:00 PM on Monday, May 9. At the opening ceremony, which is scheduled at 11:00 AM, EU Ambassador to Korea H.E. Maria Castillo-Fernandez, Seoul Mayor H.E. OH Se-hoon and French Ambassador H.E. Philippe Lefort will deliver congratulatory remarks. A quartet of a choir will sing the European Anthem in the presence of Ambassadors of the EU Member States and Ukraine.
As the Delegation annually celebrates the birth of the European Union, it also plans to project the flags of the European Union and its Member States on the media façade of the Seoul Square building to send the message of peace, unity and solidarity to Seoul citizens in these difficult times. It will be shown from May 9 till May 15 at 8:00 PM – 8:10 PM, 9:00 PM – 9:10 PM and 10:00 PM to 10:10 PM.
Come and join the Europe Day event at Seoul Plaza on May 9 to learn more about the European Union and celebrate its birth together.
