We are pleased to announce that Senior Foreign Attorney John JungKyum Kim and Senior Korean Attorney Christina Jiwon Park have joined Dentons Lee to co-head the newly-formed Insurance & Reinsurance Team while serving as key lead partners in the International Disputes Resolution Team at the firm. They bring with them 40+ years of combined international legal advocacy experience to join forces in handling regulatory, transactional and dispute resolution work including other related services across a multitude of legal practice areas and industries.
Mr. John JungKyum Kim is a U.S. educated and licensed attorney in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania having extensive experience and expertise in effectively counseling clients across various industries including insurance/reinsurance; banking and finance; hotels, resorts and casinos; technology, media and entertainment; education; automobile; human resources, and others. Notably, Mr. Kim has spent more than two decades in the insurance industry where he has represented most leading insurers, reinsurers, brokers, agents and other market participants. His expertise covers corporate, finance, mergers and acquisitions, antitrust and competition, employment and labor, data protection and privacy, technology, media; healthcare, and other disciplines in law where he has supported leading multi-national companies and those on the Fortune 500 list. Mr. Kim has worked at leading law firms and companies in New York City where he was an associate at Squadron Ellenoff Plesent & Sheinfeld (which merged into Hogan Lovells) and acted as corporate counsel at American International Group (AIG) Reliance National Insurance Company and Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire Insurance Co., Ltd. (U.S. Branch). In 2009, Mr. Kim was transplanted to Seoul, South Korea where he further developed his legal career at Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance Co, Ltd. as an International Legal Counsel and as a senior foreign attorney at the “Big 5” law firms of Kim & Chang, Lee & Ko and Shin & Kim. He is a graduate of Hamilton College in New York and the University of Illinois, John Marshall Law School in Chicago.
Ms. Christina Jiwon Park is an attorney specializing in finance, insurance and reinsurance and dispute resolution in the South Korean courts with experience in other international venues including international arbitration before the various arbitration centers such as the Korean Commercial Arbitration Board, Singapore International Arbitration Centre and others. As a former associate of the Finance Team at Yulchon LLC, she advised on various matters including asset financing such as ship and aircraft financing, capital markets work including issuance of debentures, M&A of financial institutions, funds established under the Indirect Investment Act and the Capital Markets Act as well as commercial litigation, mediation and arbitration related to financial transactions. After studying at the Harvard Law School in Boston, Ms. Park joined the Korea Development Bank (KDB) where she actively provided legal advice to her internal clients on various issues related to corporate rehabilitation and general partners of funds, in addition to traditional financial matters such as corporate finance and bond issuance. She also spent a number of years as an in-house counsel at Korean Re where she specialized in the reinsurance business dealing with regulatory compliance and transaction work as well as dispute resolution where she became a bona fide re/insurance expert. She also maintains good networks within an in-house counsel community at Seoul, serving as a Finance Sector Lead for several years.
The additions of John JungKyum Kim and Christina Jiwon Park has created a new team with two legal professionals who not only bring expertise and insight into re/insurance but also other key areas of law and core industries to further expand the services offered at Dentons Lee to its clients.
