A leading driver and strong advocate for European Businesses in Korea
ECCK A&D Committee Engagement with KIEP on EU–Korea Defence Cooperation
On November 6, the ECCK Aerospace & Defense (A&D) Committee held a discussion with the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP), which is currently conducting a research project on “EU Defence Strategy and Ways to Enhance the Cooperation between the EU and Korea.” The study aims to provide an in-depth analysis of the EU defence market and key European defence industrial players, with a particular focus on identifying practical ways to strengthen cooperation with Korean counterparts.
During the meeting, KIEP expressed strong interest in learning more about European defence companies’ business strategies and priority sectors in the Korean market, as well as ongoing international cooperation initiatives. The discussion offered a valuable opportunity for committee members to share insights on their respective engagement areas and strategic objectives in Korea. At the same time, participants highlighted existing structural and regulatory challenges that continue to affect defence-industrial collaboration.
The meeting enabled an open and constructive dialogue, with KIEP welcoming candid feedback from industry representatives. The A&D Committee will continue to support this initiative by consolidating member input and ensuring that the European defence industry’s perspectives are accurately reflected in the ongoing policy study. This engagement is expected to contribute to more practical and mutually beneficial EU–Korea defence cooperation frameworks going forward.
