A leading driver and strong advocate for European Businesses in Korea
ECCK Meets with Minister of Employment and Labor to Discuss Trade Union Act Amendment
On the morning of August 14, the European Chamber of Commerce in Korea (ECCK) held a closed-door meeting with Minister of Employment and Labor Kim Young-hoon, Labour Policy Director General Kim Yu-jin, and other senior officials to discuss the upcoming amendment to the Trade Union Act.
ECCK Chairperson Philippe van Hoof emphasised the importance of removing uncertainty regarding the definition of “employer” to foster stronger and more constructive cooperation between Korea and Europe. In response, Minister Kim explained that the purpose of the amendment to the law is to encourage labour–management relations to develop into a framework of participation and cooperation. He noted that, should the amendment be passed, the ministry will hold six months of in-depth discussions with major chambers of commerce, economic organisations, and legal and industry experts to establish concrete and practical guidelines, and expressed his hope for the ECCK’s active participation in this process.
The ECCK will continue to maintain open and constructive dialogue with the Ministry to support a transparent and predictable business environment for all stakeholders.
