A leading driver and strong advocate for European Businesses in Korea
ECCK Participates in Roundtable with President Lee Jae Myung
On Wednesday, 28 January, the European Chamber of Commerce in Korea (ECCK) had the honour of participating in a high-level roundtable meeting at Cheong Wa Dae with President Lee Jae Myung, alongside members of the foreign business community.
During the meeting, Chairperson Philippe van Hoof shared the perspectives of European companies operating in Korea, focusing on the key themes of the day: youth employment and the promotion of local investment beyond the Seoul metropolitan area.
On youth employment, Chairperson van Hoof underscored the importance of strengthening Korea’s capabilities in a global context, including practical language proficiency, future-oriented technological skills, and international management experience among young Korean professionals. He further noted that stable and predictable frameworks supporting technological exchange and talent mobility would play a vital role in enhancing employability and fostering long-term human capital development.
With regard to local investment, he highlighted Korea’s strong potential to attract increased European investment through closer alignment with international standards and regulatory practices. Such alignment would not only encourage foreign investors, but also support Korean companies—particularly SMEs—in expanding their presence in global markets.
European companies remain committed to contributing constructively to Korea’s economic development and to deepening cooperation based on mutual trust and shared values. The ECCK looks forward to continuing its close partnership with the Korean government to support sustainable growth, quality job creation, and a forward-looking economic relationship.
