ECCK Participates in the Trademark Owners’ Roundtable Meeting on Counterfeit Prevention, Hosted by KIPO
The European Chamber of Commerce in Korea (ECCK) participated in the Trademark Owners’ Roundtable on Counterfeit Prevention hosted by the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) on March 6. The meeting focused on the enforcement of online counterfeits, the establishment of a counterfeit authentication support system, and gathering industry opinions on amendments to the Trademark Act to strengthen trademark protection measures.
The event was attended by KIPO officials, the Korea Intellectual Property Protection Agency (KOIPA), major trademark owners, and other related organizations.
The key topics discussed during the roundtable included ① Gathering opinions on the implementation and collaboration of a counterfeit authentication support system, ② Collecting feedback on the proposed amendments to the Trademark Act (including the proposal by Assemblyman Lee Chul-kyu), ③ Addressing concerns and enforcement requests related to new counterfeit distribution methods, ④ Requesting trademark owners’ cooperation in AI-based monitoring, ⑤ Hearing opinions and challenges regarding the distribution of design-infringing products, and ⑥ Gathering suggestions and feedback on KIPO’s efforts to eradicate counterfeit distribution.
Moving forward, ECCK will continue collaborating with its members to strengthen intellectual property protection in Korea and engage in close cooperation with KIPO and relevant authorities.
