A leading driver and strong advocate for European Businesses in Korea
ECCK Takes Part in 2025 ChamMak Arts Festival Conference
On May 24, Stefan Ernst, President of the European Chamber of Commerce in Korea (ECCK), attended the 2025 ChamMak Art Festival Conference, held as part of the broader ChamMak Arts Festival 2025 programme.
The event, hosted by Sinan County and organised by the ChamMak Arts Festival Organising Committee, provided a platform to reflect on the historical encounter between Korea and France—sparked by the shipwreck of the Narval—as a symbol of unexpected connection and cultural exchange. Discussions extended beyond the historical narrative to explore broader themes of cooperation between Korea and Europe.
The conference was moderated by Professor Ki-Wu Lee, Professor Emeritus of Law at Inha Law School, and featured a keynote address by Professor Pierre-Emmanuel Roux, a specialist in East Asian Studies at Université Paris Cité. Sonia Chaieb, CEO of the French Korean Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI), also joined the panel discussion.
In his remarks, President Ernst highlighted the importance of inclusiveness and openness, especially in today’s world where division and polarisation are increasingly visible. He noted that the Korea-EU Free Trade Agreement serves as a strong foundation for a multi-polar and mutually beneficial relationship, and emphasised the vital role of business exchange and collaboration in sustaining and deepening this partnership. He also recognised Sinan’s potential as a future hub for offshore wind energy, aligning with ECCK’s continued focus on renewable energy cooperation.
