A leading driver and strong advocate for European Businesses in Korea
ECCK Welcomes the Conclusion of EU-Korea Digital Trade Agreement Negotiations
The European Chamber of Commerce in Korea (ECCK) welcomes the successful conclusion of negotiations for the landmark EU-Korea Digital Trade Agreement (DTA) during the 12th Trade Committee on March 10, 2025 in Brussels.
This ambitious Agreement reflects the EU’s commitment to setting high-standard digital trade rules, while connecting further the digital economies of the European Union and the Republic of Korea. The deal provides binding rules that build consumer trust; ensure predictability and legal certainty for businesses, as well as trusted data flows; while removing and preventing the emergence of unjustified barriers to digital trade.
As a long-standing advocate for robust trade relations between the EU and Korea, ECCK has actively contributed to discussions that have shaped the EU-Korea Free Trade Agreement (FTA). Recognizing the growing importance of digital trade, ECCK established its Digital Committee in 2019 to amplify the voices of European businesses operating in Korea and to foster an open dialogue on digital trade policies. Most recently, in 2023, ECCK played a pivotal role in facilitating dialogue between the European business community in Korea and policymakers on the evolving digital trade landscape. As part of these efforts, ECCK supported initiatives such as the EU-Korea Policy Dialogue Support Facility survey conducted on July 30, which gathered crucial industry insights to inform the ongoing negotiations.
Looking ahead, ECCK remains committed to supporting the smooth implementation of the EU-Korea DTA. We will continue to serve as a bridge between European businesses and Korean authorities, ensuring that the voices of our members are heard in shaping policies that foster innovation, digital security, and sustainable economic growth. Not only will ECCK commit to governmental relationships but will also encourage collaboration between industries and academia of both parties, to effectively build an AI-ready culture. If further opportunities for participation arise in the implementation process, ECCK stands ready to actively contribute and support the advancement of digital trade between the EU and Korea.
We congratulate both the EU and Korea on this significant milestone and look forward to continued collaboration in driving a future-oriented digital trade ecosystem.
