ECCK’s Third Seminar on Standard Essential Patents
On March 26, the ECCK organized its third seminar on Standard Essential Patents (SEPs), focusing on recent developments in Europe and Korea.
The seminar commenced with Dr. Jan Schmitz from the European Commission providing his insights on the EU Approach on Standard Essential Patents policies. This was followed by insights by representatives of IP Europe and the Fair Standards Alliance respectively on an IPR policy position paper on Standard Essential Patent and Fair, Reasonable and Non-Discriminatory (FRAND) commitments of CEN (the European Committee for Standardization) and CENELEC (the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization).
The second part of the seminar featured presentations by Professor Hwang Lee of Korea University Law on “Antitrust Enforcement of SEPs” and Mr. Hak-Gyu Lee of KISTA on “Korea’s SEP Strategy”. The seminar was concluded by an engaging panel discussion with Dr. Jan Schmitz, Dr. Matteo Sabbatini from Ericsson, and Mr. Hankil Kang from Bae, Kim & Lee.
We would like to thank everyone for their participation in the seminar.
