[GYF] From the UK to Korea: Meet the UK in Seoul
The Global Youth Fair (GYF) hosts “From the UK to Korea: Meet the UK in Seoul,” its global youth cultural event on (Sat.) October 13, 2018 from 10:30 AM to 3:00 PM at the National Library for Children and Young Adults.
Global Youth Fair (GYF) is based on the vision of “meeting a wider world”, “developing communication skills”, and “dreaming of a better future” and it has been conducting lectures and events related to various global cultural exchange programs so that “children can naturally grow as a global citizen and global leader by experiencing global culture from their childhood.” Particularly, the Embassy and the foreign communities have been participating in the global EXPO events every year, and the events have been officially promoted to all elementary, middle and high schools in Seoul through the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education.
Global Youth Fair, selected as a support project for cultural events for foreign residents in Seoul in 2018, presented ‘From Germany To Korea’ (Chosun Ilbo, September 1, 2015), which introduced the peaceful reunification of Germany, with the Embassy of Germany in Korea, Goethe Institute and Deutsche Schule Seoul International on August 30, 2015. On September 3, 2016,
GYF introduced Switzerland, which is a representative multi-ethnic country and is a small country with lack of resources such as Korea but sustainably develops and eventually becomes a country with the most Nobel Prize winners, through the ‘From Switzerland To Korea’ (Korea TV, September 7, 2016) event supported by the Embassy of Switzerland.
On October 21, 2017, GYF organized ‘From France To Korea’ with the Ambassade de France en Corée, Institut Français de Séoul, Lycée Français de Séoul(LFS) and Lycée International Xavier (LIX). Fabien Penone, the French Ambassador to Korea, Jean-Christophe FLEURY, the director of the Institut Français de Séoul, and Christoph HEIDER, the chairman of the European Chamber of Commerce in Korea attended for the opening ceremony and about 1,300 Korean and foreign nationals visited the event.
The “From the UK to Korea” event supported by Seoul Metropolitan Government, Nestle Korea, Perrier and Baram Coffee and cooperated with the National Library for Children and Young Adults will be held on October 13, 2018. The event will be supported by the British Embassy in Korea, the British Association of Seoul (BASS), European Chamber of Commerce in Korea (ECCK), Dulwich College Seoul, Seoul Foreign British School, British Education Korea and Yeoksam Global Village Center.
Participants will acquire a great opportunity to learn about British culture with foreigners from all over the world in Seoul throughout over thirty different activity booths and programs including opening ceremony, face painting, British style picture, British table etiquette, curling, cricket, Union Jack pouches, UK attractions puzzle, UK currency – the “Pound.” There will also be musical performances, British photo zone, global flea market and exhibitions such as ‘The Great UK (general information about the UK),’ British Royal Family Tree and Language Difference between the UK and the USA.
About 80 students from both Global Youth Fair student members and international school students who follow the UK curriculum in Seoul will be part of the event as booth keepers. Approximately 1,500 Korean and foreign visitors with 200 volunteers are expected to be part of the event. This “From the UK to Korea” event will be a valuable experience to interact with foreign nationals especially for youths in blind area of global cultural education.
The profits of the global flea market will be used for the “World Cultural Experience Program” to help students who are isolated from global cultural education to experience different culture and to grow into global leaders and global citizens.
Event participation will be free of charge at the site without prior reservation and the event poster will be promoted through the Global Youth Fair homepage, the National Library for Children and Young Adults website, the British Embassy, European Chamber of Commerce in Korea, the Yeoksam Global Village Center and more.
