On May 20, 2023, the ECCK participated in the Busan Global Gathering and throughout the event the IPR(Intellectual Property Rights) Committee conducted a campaign to promote the importance of intellectual property. Moreover, the survey was carried out as part of an ongoing campaign and measure the public perception of counterfeits. The survey consisted of 12 questions and was completed by more than 500 people. All survey responses have now been compiled into a report titled “Busan Consumers’ Perception of Counterfeits 2023”. The full report can be found at this LINK. The main findings are as follows: 36% of all respondents indicated to have experience in purchasing counterfeits; Counterfeits were most commonly purchased at online shopping and street stalls or traditional markets accounting for 37% and 27% of the respondents respectively; The two most popular categories of counterfeits were bags or wallets and clothes or shoes, which accounted for 33% and 28%, respectively; 80% of all respondents perceived the counterfeit industry to be a concern (due to its damage to brand image and the harm inflicted on consumers and local businesses); 74% of all respondents expressed a wish for stronger enforcement by the government against counterfeiting, 54% indicating that producers and sellers of counterfeits need to face stronger punishment.
