A leading driver and strong advocate for European Businesses in Korea
Korea Fair Trade Commission Roundtable with Foreign Chambers of Commerce in Korea
On November 6, ECCK Chairperson Philippe van Hoof attended the Korea Fair Trade Commission(KFTC) Roundtable with Foreign Chambers of Commerce in Korea. The Roundtable was hosted by newly appointed Chairperson Biung-Ghi Ju.
As the Chairperson of the ECCK, Philippe emphasized that the European business community is fully behind and supportive of initiatives that strengthen the competitive and fair business in Korea. As part of such efforts, the ECCK suggested that the re-enactment of the previously drafted legislation, by introducing legal clarity and a set of predefined obligations for dominant digital platforms, with focus on mobile operating systems, which would ultimately safeguard consumer interests. And also, ECCK Beer, Wine & Spirits Committee calls on KFTC to recognize unequal access to alcohol e-commerce platforms as a significant competition policy issue. By guiding reform in this area, KFTC can help modernize Korea’s regulatory framework for alcohol distribution in the digital era, while working to expand consumer choice, enhance protections and promote a fairer market environment.
