The LangPats project, funded by the Dutch Research Council, seeks to understand why some European expats learn the language while some others do not. All Europeans living in their current host countries for at least two years are invited to participate. The research will result in practical policy advice for expat sending organizations about how to better prepare and support European expats for their time in Asia and the Middle East, and to harness the benefits of language skills for European interests.
All types of people are welcome. The research invites participation by
all European nationalities
expats in all Asian and Middle Eastern countries
all expat situations: from self-initiated expats to people sent by employers
different age groups, language skills, and family situations
LGBTQ+ expats, neurodiverse expats, and minority groups: everyone is welcome!
The research is conducted by Dr Nathan Albury-Garcés (Erasmus University Rotterdam / Leiden University) and has been granted ethical approval. Participation is absolutely confidential and no data can be traced to individuals.
