MOTIR and MOEL Ministers’ Roundtable with Foreign Chambers of Commerce in Korea
On February 26, ECCK Chairperson Philippe van Hoof attended the Roundtable with Foreign Chambers of Commerce in Korea, which was jointly held by Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resources (MOTIR) Minister Kim Jung-Kwan and Ministry of Employment and Labor (MOEL) Minister Kim Younghoon. Taking this opportunity, Chairperson Philippe mentioned that Korea’s overall regulatory predictability is essential for long-term investment decisions, and that the ECCK would welcome the establishment of a regular public–private consultation mechanism. In this regard, the Ministers promised to establish a hotline (similar to a call center) that acts as an Authoritative Interpretation Committee to immediately verify ‘employer’ status.
Chairperson Philippe concluded that the ECCK remains fully committed to Korea as a strategic investment destination. We hope that through continued dialogue and cooperation, we can work together to create a regulatory environment that protects workers while also supporting Korea’s global competitiveness.
