Nike Korea opens ‘Playground for all’, the new play space for everyone
Nike is opening ‘Playground for all’, where everyone can equally experience the joy of sport, in partnership with the Seoul Metropolitan Government and Childfund Korea.
The 1,613 m2 playground is located within the Seoul Lifelong Education Institution ‘Modu School(School for all)’ in Geumcheon-gu, Seoul, plans to foster a community of belonging and give everyone equal opportunities in play and sport, regardless of gender, age, or physical abilities.
Through Recycle and Donation program with Nike’s Move to Zero journey, part of the playground’s materials are made up of Nike’s end-of-life footwear and apparel product, donated by consumers. The donated products have been given a new life by Nike Grind as storage bins and chips integrated onto the ground, showcasing Nike’s efforts in sustainability to protect the future of sport.
Giving back to communities by diverting and upcycling the end-of-life product into ‘Playground for all’ takes an even deeper meaning for Nike’s footprint in sustainability and social responsibility. It also shows Nike’s commitment to building a more inclusive culture and strengthening connections with the local community.
The design of the playground, with its vivid colors and a unique structure, was a collaborative effort with Joo-eon Jo from IMJ Design known for exploring novel social possibilities. Surrounded by a running track, the playground includes a basketball court, a futsal field, and a play zone for various games, creating an interactive ecosystem that offers a channel to communicate freely by connecting a variety of people.
Inspired by childhood memories of drawing and playing on the ground, the ‘Playground for all’ design powers Nike’s journey to ignite new possibilities and positivity through sport and play.
Through Made to Play, Nike’s global commitment to get kids moving through play and sport, we’re working with community partners in Seoul, and their grassroots programs, so that all kids can play. With the launch of the ‘Playground for all’, Nike aims to drive its ‘Active Modoo’ program to help “Modoo,” meaning “Everyone” in Korean, to get active by providing equal access to play and sport, and quality coaches, to kids in Seoul. About 24 play and sport programs will be offered, breaking down the barriers for kids, and making each kid’s experience in sport more fun while building confidence and creating healthy, lifelong habits.
Through the ‘Playground for all’, Nike is taking a step closer to connecting with the local community and continues to move forward to unlock opportunities and potential for all, with its commitment to taking action to create a better world.
