A leading driver and strong advocate for European Businesses in Korea
Roundtable with the Foreign Business Community in Korea
On December 19, ECCK Chairperson Philippe van Hoof attended Roundtable with the Foreign Business Community in Korea at the Korea House. MOTIE Minister Ahn Dukgeun shared the policy prospects for FDI (Foreign Direct Investment) 2025.
MOTIE held its fourth foreign investment strategy meeting for this year with the participation of foreign chambers of commerce in Korea and representatives of foreign invested companies, which evaluated that “despite the recent political situation, trust in the Korean economy continues.”
Chairperson Philippe emphasized BAU (Business as usual) in relation to the current situation as follows.
Regarding BAU, the announcement of the outcome of the Wind power auction , scheduled for tomorrow, is expected to show that Korea delivers on promises to foreign investors and the business plan (even for very long term) can be carried out as usual. Thanks to MOTIE announcement on Aug 8 to improve the auction process, the climate for FDI for OSW (Off-shore Wind) has improved. And the expected announcement tomorrow, if successful, should allow all involved companies (not only the main operators but all the subcontractors and services attached) to report about BAU to their HO. These reporting do a lot to enhance the reputation of Korea as prime location for successful investent.
In actual, selection of operators for the fixed-price competitive bidding for offshore and onshore wind projects on December 20, all related companies—including major operators, subcontractors, and service providers—were able to report BAU to their headquarters.
