South Korea to Ease COVID-19 Restrictions, Moving Towards Endemic Phase (as of June 1)
On May 11, the South Korean government announced the termination of nearly all COVID-19 restrictions, which includes the elimination of mandatory quarantine measures.
The mandatory isolation period for COVID-19 patients, which was previously set at seven days, will now be reduced to a recommended duration of five days. Additionally, the requirement to wear masks indoors will be lifted in all locations except for facilities with designated rooms for hospitalization. Furthermore, the recommendation for PCR testing upon arrival will no longer be in place.
These new measures are set to be implemented on June 1, coinciding with the reduction of the national crisis level for COVID-19 from “serious” to “alert.”
