Strengthening Economic Collaboration with Gyeonggi Province
On January 8, the European Chamber of Commerce in Korea (ECCK) was pleased to welcome the Governor of Gyeonggi Province, Mr. Kim Dong-yeon, for a meeting with the ECCK Chairperson Philippe van Hoof. The meeting focused on shared efforts to strengthen economic cooperation and promote investment opportunities in Gyeonggi Province.
The discussion highlighted Gyeonggi Province’s strong commitment to fostering a business-friendly environment. Governor Kim shared notable achievements, including securing KRW 73.3 trillion in investments and establishing strategic partnerships in key sectors such as semiconductors, eco-friendly vehicles, and biotechnology. He also addressed Korea’s current political uncertainties, expressing confidence in a peaceful and democratic resolution that would restore the nation’s reputation as a safe and reliable investment destination. Additionally, Governor Kim outlined Gyeonggi Province’s continuous efforts to support European companies operating in the region and emphasized its focus on attracting further foreign investment.
In response, ECCK Chairperson Philippe van Hoof underscored the adaptability of European businesses in Korea and reaffirmed their trust in the Korean government despite recent challenges. He noted that European companies in Korea remain in “business as usual” mode and continue to share updates on the situation with their headquarters in Europe. He also highlighted ECCK member companies currently operating in Gyeonggi Province and expressed anticipation for broader investment opportunities in the region.
