The conference was hosted by the Busan Port Authority (BPA) and supported by the European Chamber of Commerce in Korea (ECCK) and the Korea Maritime Institute (KMI). The three-day conference started with an evening welcome reception on 27 November, with the main conference taking place on 28 and 29 November under the theme of ‘Enduring Progress’. As a supporting organization, the ECCK had a strong presence at the conference, with President Stefan Ernst giving a well-received congratulatory address, while Board Member Erik Roelans and ECCK Busan Chapter Representative Andrew Millard also attended. In addition, in order to boost the European presence, Mr. Jorg Weberndorfer, Minister Counsellor for the EU delegation in Korea, attended and gave a presentation on ‘Regulations on Decarbonisation in the European Union’.
The conference was divided into several sessions, each with its own theme. Experts from around the world on ports, shipping, energy and technology gathered to listen to presentations and debates on the topics of; container shipping, governance of port authority, decarbonisation, ports and shipping in Korea, port development and management, port technology, and international logistics response and prospects according to environmentally friendly bunkering changes in ports.
The 11th BIPC attracted a large audience of more than 600 participants, highlighting the invaluable role that ports across Korea, but Busan Port in particular, play in Korea’s sustainable economic growth.
