Awards will designate five researchers in Life and Environmental Sciences
Each Laureate will receive €100,000, and the award ceremony will take place in Paris, June 2024
The call for nominations for 2024 L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science International Awards will be open until June 28. Since 1998, the L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science program has recognized and celebrated eminent women in science throughout the world. To date, the L’Oréal-UNESCO partnership has distinguished 127 eminent women at the height of their scientific careers and supported more than 4,000 promising young women scientists from more than 110 countries at doctoral and postdoctoral levels, and five of them have won scientific Nobel Prize.
The International Awards are given out in alternate years to women researchers either in life sciences or in physical sciences, mathematics, and computer science. In 2024, five laureates in life or environmental sciences will be selected for each of the five regions – Africa and the Arab States, Asia and the Pacific, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, North America – the determining factor being the place of work for at least 10 years.
Candidates for 2024 L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science International Awards need to be ▲actively involved in any field of life and environmental sciences, ▲recognized for her scientific excellence by the international scientific community, ▲and actively involved in scientific research.
Selection criteria are ▲candidate’s outstanding contribution to the advancement of science, ▲impact of the candidate’s research work on the current state of her scientific field (number, quality and impact of publications, conference presentations, patents…), ▲recognition of the candidate by peers within her discipline through publications, ▲recognition of the candidate’s commitment to education, teaching activities, mentoring and/or to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals more broadly.
To be considered eligible for an Award, it is necessary to be nominated in writing by an eminent scientist. Self-nominations are not eligible, nor nominations from immediate family members. Teams are not eligible for nomination.
Nomination can be done by following the registration procedure on the For Women in Science platform accessible at: www.forwomeninscience.com/authority/international-awards. Nomination files must be submitted by June 28th, 2023 (France GMT/UTC +2h).
Each of the laureates will receive €100,000 (KRW 147 million). They will be selected by an international jury for their tremendous contribution to scientific advancement and will receive their awards in June 15, 2024 in Paris.
Meanwhile, L’Oréal Korea had also completed application period for ‘2023 Korea L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Awards’. Launched in 2002, Korea L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Awards has been partnering with Women’s Bioscience Forum (WBF) and Korean National Commission for UNESCO to support female scientists in Korea.
