[Update] Application for Exemption from Medical Examination and Scope of Validity for Diagnosis
Eligibility for Exemption from Medical Examination and the Application Procedure
○ (Eligibility) Registered aliens who seek to re-enter the Republic of Korea within 3 weeks after departing from the country for the purpose of business (investment) activities, journalism, academic (research) activities as of June 1, 2020.
○ (Application procedure and others)
① Visit an immigration (branch) office across the nation including at ports and airports
② Submit an application form for a Re-entry Permit – Passport, Alien Registration Card, Integrated Application form, Letter of Explanation ※ Those granted a Re-entry Permit are required to only present passport and alien registration card
③ Submit documents to apply for a Medical Examination Exemption Certificate
– Submit the following documents which prove that the business travel is for the purpose of business (investment), journalism, or academic (research) activities
1) Copy of Business Travel Order (with department, position, purpose of business trip and period of business trip specified)
2) Copy of Certificate of Employment (Employee ID or relevant identifications proving the employment are also acceptable)
3) Copy of Business Registration
– To apply for a Medical Examination Exemption Certificate for family members accompanying you on a business trip, submit the following documents on their behalf. 1) Letter of Explanation 2) (If required) proof of family relationship
④ ‘Medical Examination Exemption Certificate (attachment 1)’ to be issued by an officer in charge
⑤ Those with a ‘Medical Examination Exemption Certificate’ shall be exempted from the obligation to undergo a medical examination and to submit a diagnosis for Re-entry into the ROK.
Expanded scope of validity for diagnosis
○ Languages for a valid medical certificate
– (Previous) A medical certificate written either in Korean or English is valid
– (New) A medical certificate is, in principle, valid when written in Korean or English. Yet, a medical certificate written in local languages is acceptable under exceptional circumstances if submitted with a full English or Korean translation and a ‘Certificate of Translation (attachment 2)’ ※ Notarization for the translation is NOT required
○ Time limit for a valid medical certificate
– (Previous) Those seeking re-entry should have a diagnosis document issued within 48 hours prior to the date scheduled to leave for Korea
– (New) Those seeking re-entry should have a diagnosis document issued within 2 days (excluding holidays) from the date scheduled to leave for Korea (Yet, within 3 days is acceptable under exceptional circumstances)
