Update on COVID-19 Entry Procedures
Up-date on COVID-19 Entry Procedures
The Korean government has initiated and implemented stricter entering and testing procedures which became effective for travellers arriving from Europe on Sunday, March 22, 2020 and for travellers arriving from the USA on Friday, March 27, 2020 (midnight).
COVID-19 Testing Procedures etc
All travellers from Europe (Korean citizens, foreign national long-term citizens, other foreigners) have to undergo a fever check at the airport. Additionally, all incoming travellers from Europe – those with symptoms and those with no symptoms – have to undergo a COVID-19 test. Those tested positive on the COVID-19 virus will be brought to a public health centre to be treated, those tested negative are requested to self-quarantine / self-isolate themselves for 14 days.

Effective from April 1, 2020: Short-term visitors with no permanent address in Korea: The self-quarantine / self-isolation for 14 days is also mandatory for foreigners with no residence in Korea; they will be quarantined at government-designated facilities at their own expense. The fee is estimated to be around 100,000 KRW (82.50 USD) a day.
In any case we re-issue or recommendation rather to refrain from traveling to Korea for the time being as procedures might be changed on a short notice.

Reporting by Self Diagnosis App
Adherence is monitored with a mobile application which needs to be downloaded before entering Korea. The Self Diagnosis App is to be used for reporting your health conditions on a daily basis for a period for 14 days. The app also monitors if people supposed to be self-quarantined follow this.
Note: The download is not always possible – this happens sometimes on smartphones from people having a foreign smartphone. Even if the download on a foreign smartphone works, there is still the possibility that the text message sent to your smartphone to active the app doesn’t come through. Furthermore, there is no guidance how to report, if the traveller does not possess a smart- but a mobile phone.
