Re-entry Permit System for Fully Vaccinated Individuals Amended
The Korean government has announced that the Re-entry Permit system for registered foreigners who have been fully vaccinated has changed as of December 28, 2021. Also, as of January 13, 2022, implementation of a stricter requirement for overseas entry into Korea is set to take into action.
The ECCK has constantly been speaking up to remove the Re-entry Permit System since its implementation. While we welcome the Korean government’s decision to partially ease the regulation for overseas visitors to the country, the ECCK ensures to eradicate the unnecessary regulations and ease the difficulties of foreigners by continuously appealing to the Korean government.
Amendment of Re-entry Permit System for Fully Vaccinated Individuals
The Korean administration has introduced effective as from December 28, 2021, the possibility to apply for a multiple re-entry permit. Entitlement is limited to registered foreigners and their underaged children who fall under one of the following categories
Those who have completed their 2nd vaccination: A person who is within 180 days after 14 days of completion of the second vaccination in Korea or abroad. (AstraZeneca, Moderna, and Pfizer: 14 days after the 2nd vaccination / Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen: 14 days after the 1st vaccination)
Those who have completed their 3rd vaccination: Valid right after the completion of the vaccination.
The application for a multiple re-entry permit can be made as follows:
Online submission through HiKorea: If one is not able to obtain re-entry permission in advance due to urgent reasons such as the death of a family member, application on the day of departure is only allowed at the airport. (Applications can be denied unless urgent cases and the process could result in delayed or denied boarding.)
Issuance of Multiple Re-entry Permit: Multiple Re-entry Permit holders are allowed to enter Korea more than twice within the permitted period. The period of permission can be granted up to 1 year to the extent that the passport does not exceed the validity period. (At Ports & airports, only Single Re-entry Permit is issued)
Also, the Korean administration has waived the issuance fee.
The multiple re-entry permit is not available for non-vaccinated individuals; here individuals need to apply – as before – for a single re-entry permit.
Individuals who fall under one of the below categories are allowed to re-enter Korea after departure, without obtaining a Re-entry Permit
Diplomats (A-1), Government Officials (A-2), International Agreement (A-3) or Overseas Korean (F-4) status
Long-term foreigners who left the country before May 31, 2020 (required to make an entry within the exemption period for re-entry permission)
Mandatory PCR Negative Certificate to be Presented Prior to the Departure to Korea
Effective January 13, 2022, the Korean government is to implement a stricter requirement for overseas entry into Korea.
The current regulation of issuing a certificate within 72 hours before departure will be updated to getting PCR tested & receiving the following negative test certificate within 72 hours before the departure.
